For Dawn's Boys

Dawn Habisreitinger , who had a website, Ebay Store and Etsy Shop, was killed last week in a motorcycle accident. She was 30 years old and had two sons.

Dawn made jewelry and lampwork beads (I am lucky to have some of her beads). I remember her most for her trials during Hurricane Katrina. Dawn and her boys lived in Slidell, Louisiana and during the evacuation she kept all of us in an Ebay group posted on her whereabouts by stopping in libraries and getting on the Internet. Basically, she drove around with her two boys and a dog and I don’t recall where she stayed while her home was being rebuilt. It was a few hours away from Slidell. I remember seeing pictures of the inside of the house with all the walls down to the studs. Dawn did a lot of the renovation herself and was so proud of it.

She was just getting back in the swing of managing her website, Etsy Shop and Ebay Store, enough so that she was making a living with her beads and jewelry. It is such a shame to have lost a talented artist and I feel so badly for her sons and other family members.

Cory and Stephen, 11 and 9 years old

To donate, a Paypal account has been set up: fund_for_dawns_boys@yahoo.com

And on Etsy, there is a gigantic sale going on with sellers donating items. Once purchased, the sellers donate the proceeds to the fund above. http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5384924&page=1

And on Ebay, huge auctions are being generated for the same reason - hopefully they will be listed soon.

I am very proud to be in both Ebay and Etsy with such wonderful and generous people who are doing everything they can to raise funds for the two boys.

Running Horse Pewter Button Bead Embroidered Cuff Bracelet

Running Horse Pewter Button Bead Embroidered Cuff Bracelet
Galloping across a green field of beads!

A wonderful bead embroidered cuff bracelet with seed bead fields of green and silver seed beads and peacock and silver freshwater button pearls.

The cuff is a tiny bit over an inch wide and is adjustable by bending. The cuff inside is aluminum and quite lightweight. A good choice for glass beads and a pewter button!

New Listing

A pretty beadwoven Autumn bracelet featuring a carved agate flower bead and lots of contrating coraled fronds!

What is coraling? It's a Russian beadweaving technique that I've adapted to look like fronds or sprigs with buds!

The Etsy Beadweavers October Challenge

The theme for October is "A Study in Monochrome". There are 21 beautiful entries from very talented beadweavers! What is monochrome? Shades and hues of the same color, sometimes described as boring. I think you will agree that none of these entries are boring!

The link to the Etsy Beadweavers Blog for voting, and to see much larger pictures of all entries: http://etsy-beadweavers.blogspot.com/

The first picture below shows all of the entries, and the rest show my entry - a beadwoven bracelet and earring set in shades of bronze, featuring brass and nickolite vintage buttons. The nickolite is behind the brass floral filigree and has a sparkling silver color!

New on Ebay!

I just listed a new bracelet featuring a vintage brass and nickolite button, with gorgeous, beaded autumn leaves. What is nickolite? It's hard to tell from the picture - behind the floral brass design is silvery nickolite (a metal containing nickel) that makes the button sparkle!

Our First Etsy Show!

Etsy @ the Market took place on September 30th in conjunction with the Sunday Artisans Market. It was a beautiful sunny day with mild temperatures - perfect for an outside show.
We had around 35 Etsy spaces, with a total of over 100 spaces counting the regular Ann Arbor Artisans. We had more traffic than on any other Sunday this season and everyone seemed to be having a great time!

I look forward to more Etsy shows in Ann Arbor!

There is a blog for an Etsy group in this area - http://23corridor.blogspot.com/

The Etsy Beadweavers September Challenge!

The Etsy Beadweavers challenged our members to create something to "Show Your Colors". I'm sure you will agree that we did just that! The entries show a range of seedbeading techniques and stitches, different types of items, and a myriad of colors! What talent!
Here is a picture of all twenty of the entries. And here's the link where you can go to see each entry up close, visit the artists shops, and vote for the one you like the most! http://etsy-beadweavers.blogspot.com/

And here is my entry - a 7 1/2 inch tall beaded glass bottle. Actually I used a hot sauce bottle that was perfect for the hot fiesta colors of the beads. I used the cap that came with the bottle and stained it to match the bronze colored seed beads. There are over 10,000 beads in this piece! And perhaps 30-36 hours were used to complete it.

The neck chain utilizes a modified St. Petersburg chain stitch with the same green and brown seed beads. The neck chain measures about 20 inches and is fastened with a gold-plated lobster claw clasp and ring.

Labor Day Weekend Trip

I just got back from an 8-day trip visiting my sister and her husband, and my niece, her husband and my great-niece Summer Marie who just had her 1st birthday. She is a doll as you can see below! The picture is Summer at 8 months - hope to have a more updated picture soon!

My trip covered 3 states - Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi. Kentucky and parts of Tennessee were in the midst of a severe drought complete with brown grass and dying trees. Mississippi fared better and seemed to be getting adequate rain. All of them were very hot and humid.

I did manage to stop at one bead store - the sister shop for the online shop Land of Odds. Great selection of seed beads. I like choosing seed beads in person rather than ordering them online. There's something about feeling strands of seed beads, and holding them up to the light to better see how they shine that one just has to do in person. Needless to say, I came home with quite a few strands!

There is another thread (under Etc.) called the SNS Chat where sellers participating can chat and get to know each other. Come join us! A Big Thank You!

To the Etsy Glass Artists Street Team for featuring me and me work on their blog! Here's the link to the feature article: http://etsyglass.com/blog/index.php/2007/08/07/etsy-bead-artist-judy-russell-beadbug/.

It all began when I used a fused glass cabochon made by willowglass of Etsy in the brooch below. I love combining other components with seed beads! Another example of combining shows in the earrings below made with Czechoslovakian moonglow buttons.
